When was the last time you felt truly energized?
If you have gotten accustomed to feeling tired most of the time or using caffeine to get through the day.
It might be time to do an assessment of your sleep habits.
Yes, how you’re spending your waking hours will definitely impact your energy levels but getting good sleep regularly is a common problem that many ignore.
From sleep apnea to hormonal imbalances, sleeping well has become a thing that only puppies get enough of.
I generally sleep very well, but a few weeks ago I had a few very high stress days and could really feel my cortisol and adrenaline was pumping out excessively.
There was one night in particular that I did NOT want to sleep deeply.
There was a fire nearby and although I was safe my body was still on high alert in case I needed to act quickly.
The idea is not to force yourself to relax, especially if there is good reason to be on high alert.
But, when the body is stuck in chronic hypervigilance, whether...
I’m sure you’ve heard of procrastination and you’ve probably done it a few times in your life.
But, did you know that procrastination can be related to a trauma response.
Yes, trauma again, everyone has trauma to varying degrees, it’s just now getting more attention.
Rather than feeling hopeless that everything is a trauma.
Realize that awareness is a power you can utilize to absolutely change your life and habitual patterns, no matter the circumstances.
So, back to procrastination.
There are times you just don’t want to do something and so you put it off.
That's not what I’m talking about here.
I’m talking about chronic situations of things that truly need to be done but you’re allowing them to pile up. It could be work tasks, errands, cleaning or anything really.
Times where you find yourself feeling unable to do the thing.
You may suddenly get very tired and need a nap, feel the urge to call anyone as an excuse to avoid the task at hand.
Things that you actually...
I’m taking time this week to do some soul searching.
This is actually something I like to do every few months.
Noticing what is working and not working in my business and personal life.
Making sure that I am taking enough time to do things I enjoy and staying inspired to share with others how to more consciously create their lives.
To start, I sit down with all my lists, personal and professional,
I’m a big list maker.
I have stacks of notebooks scattered around everywhere!!
I like to see things written out in front of me. I personally find it easier to stay focused having it written down and find that it's very satisfying to mark things as complete.
Please use whatever methods work for you to help keep track of your progress and hold you accountable.
So once I have my lists open I simply feel into the things and see if they still resonate with me or not.
If I don’t feel interested or in alignment with the projects or ideas I will either put them on another ...
This time of the year many people feel they require more sleep.
Our sleep/wake cycles are regulated by light, so it makes perfect sense that if we have less light each day, we feel sleepier.
I won't go into ALL of that, but feel free to do your research if you like… I do want to mention how many of us don’t honor our bodies signals for more rest and push ourselves to do even more.
Â
Your body is not trying to trick you. If you feel tired and sleepy, you simply need more rest.
Your body is not some annoying enemy always getting in your way with all its wants and requirements.
It's funny that we naturally require more rest and quiet time during the holiday season!
How can you possibly give yourself more sleep when you have all these parties, meetings, lines to wait in to buy gifts, heck you can barely find time to feed yourself in a day let alone take a nap.
When you stop, listen to your true needs and honor them, life gets so much easier.
I know we have all found ourselv...
When was the last time you did something just for yourself?
I often ask my clients, friends and family this question. They usually reply with an, ' I don’t have time!' or 'I just have way too much to do!'
Here’s the thing, if you consistently don’t put yourself first; it will negatively impact every area of your life.Â
Before you go into the stories like: 'I have to put my kids as top priority.', or 'If I don’t put work first I won’t be able to survive.', please stop and realize, that if your gas tank is empty or only partially full you can’t maintain this cycle without something eventually breaking down, and it just might be you.
Now, I’m not promoting selfishness, nor suggesting you ignore everyone else and what they require.
But, I am encouraging you to get real with yourself and realize that there are things we actually need as we are having this human experience.Â
Let’s talk about food for instance. I’ve lost count of how many people tell me they forget to eat, or worse,...
I’m sure you are aware of cycles, look to nature, and you will see a natural rhythm to things each and every day. But you may not be aware that those cycles and rhythms apply to all areas of your life. We aren’t meant to be going at full speed nonstop.
Trying to do everything on your own and helping others with their stuff too. Attempting to do too much for too long can have a very negative impact on your health, relationships, and your outlook on life.
It can take courage to stop and rest. Especially with how much importance the world puts on staying busy. We are taught to keep moving no matter what or risk being seen as lazy.
But what if stopping to do nothing is one of the best things you could do for yourself.
In times of high stress, it can seem counterintuitive to stop and relax. So many spinning anxious thoughts. Feeling you need to do something. Thinking you must keep moving or things will fall apart. It's often at those times we need to stop and do nothing the m...
I hear it all the time. I can’t do this or I just can’t do that.
Heck I've even said it to myself more times than I care to count.
We tell ourselves that certain things don’t matter, we will get to it tomorrow, but it often never gets completed.
A common theme under all of this is perfectionism, which is actually a pretty interesting sabotage pattern. There is no perfection, in comparison to what or whom?
So what a great way for you to at least be right and succeed at failing! You can say, see I told you I couldn’t do it and here’s the proof!
One thing I’ve noticed with individuals who choose to perpetually make excuses is that they seem to be quite annoyed or shocked when other people are actually doing things.
Years ago a friend of mine would constantly have an ongoing list of things she was going to do, but when it came time to take any sort of action she had a never-ending catalog of excuses as to why she couldn’t do it.
She was so caught up in thought loops and stor...
