I’m sure you’ve heard of procrastination and you’ve probably done it a few times in your life.
But, did you know that procrastination can be related to a trauma response.
Yes, trauma again, everyone has trauma to varying degrees, it’s just now getting more attention.
Rather than feeling hopeless that everything is a trauma.
Realize that awareness is a power you can utilize to absolutely change your life and habitual patterns, no matter the circumstances.
So, back to procrastination.
There are times you just don’t want to do something and so you put it off.
That's not what I’m talking about here.
I’m talking about chronic situations of things that truly need to be done but you’re allowing them to pile up. It could be work tasks, errands, cleaning or anything really.
Times where you find yourself feeling unable to do the thing.
You may suddenly get very tired and need a nap, feel the urge to call anyone as an excuse to avoid the task at hand.
Things that you actually need to do in order to achieve certain things in your life.
A part of you absolutely wants to do them, and wants to have the results attached to finishing the task or project.
However; another part of you perceives the action or the result of the action unsafe.
Criticism- It won’t be good enough anyway so why bother.
Unsafe to shine and be seen- People won’t like it. They’ll be jealous.
Avoidance of the responsibilities- What if I can't handle it?
Some of the patterns contributing to these beliefs are passed down ancestrally.
Or they can be absorbed in other ways. Regardless of how you’ve taken them on they can be changed.
Being aware that you have been operating in a certain way is often enough to shift it.
But, many times there is a bit more practice involved.
No, you don’t need to analyze every single thought and feeling you’ve ever had.
Becoming curious and open about your beliefs in regards to the subject (procrastination) can make the changes much faster and easier.
And it is always a good idea to honestly ask yourself if you even want to change the belief/pattern.
An extremely common thing I see happening with people, myself included, is feeling guilty for wanting to change something.
These patterns are often deep and can throw up a lot of distractions to keep you from even being clear.
If there’s a deep fear that something is unsafe you will likely hold a lot of guilt around that issue.
To the point you may sabotage yourself because at the core you have decided it is wrong for you to even acknowledge this “belief” let alone change it.
Guilt seeks punishments and if you were to move beyond that , without truly releasing it, you could create a kick back of punishment.
It could show up in the form of loss. Loss of money, health, seeming accidents.
I have a few situations where I thought I'd just push past this pattern and it blew up in my face.
So, I encourage you to take a moment and see if you might be feeling guilt around moving forward. That way you can address it now, rather than later.
