When was the last time you stopped to check in with your body?
How have you been feeling lately?
Do you have a few aches and pains, maybe a chronic condition that you’ve been coping with, or perhaps you feel better than ever!
Whatever the answer is, make note of it.
And, if you felt uncomfortable and didn’t want to check in, make note of that too!
Our bodies give us feedback about so many things that it can be easy to miss.
But, if you take a moment to slow down each day, or a few times a day, you will become aware of sensations and how they are connected to your thoughts.
Just as your hand lets you know if something you’re touching is too hot or cold. Your body as a whole sends signals in various ways to let you know when you’re out of alignment.
That could be physical, emotional, or mental.
Now, I’m not suggesting you hyperfocus on bodily sensations, but knowing the signs that you’re hitting a limit can spare you tons of unnecessary suffering.
Many feelings you may NOT notice because they’ve been with you so long that they seem normal.
Although, being in a state of hypervigilance or avoidance is “normal” to you does not mean it is healthy.
We tend to mimic our parents or primary care givers.
So if they kept pushing through chronic pain or had addictions to avoid certain things. It will naturally feel normal to operate that way and we generally don’t think to question it. Until an ailment becomes too intense to ignore anymore.
If you’re currently having any health challenges I encourage you to write out a list of what your mom and dad’s dominant experience with health was, or is.
You can also write out your family’s stories about health.
Did everyone have a certain disease?
How do they talk about their bodies?
Identifying the general family dynamics around health will help you see where you could be playing out old patterns passed down to you.
Regardless, of how many years or generations these beliefs have impacted. You can create your own story of health and vitality whenever you choose!
Sometimes you might feel like you’re betraying your family if you choose something drastically different from their reality.
But you have got to drop that belief and do what’s right for you.
You help nobody by staying stuck in any form of suffering.
