Stand Tall

This week I want to talk about posture and how it has such an enormous impact on how we feel.

Most of you have heard adults; usually, a parent, say: "Stand up straight, stop slouching, it looks horrible."

But it's not just that slouching looks bad, it has huge adverse effects on our mental and physical health as well.

 

For example; If you ever pay attention to actors, you will see that they must change their posture and mannerisms to get into character. The confident characters always stand tall and usually shoulders squared off, those characters being bullied or lacking confidence will be depicted slouched, chest sunk in.

Many scientific studies are proving that just holding certain body positions for a short while will produce chemical reactions in our bodies that contribute to feeling more optimistic/confident or depressed/ hopeless amongst many other emotions.

Now you’d probably think, oh ok, I will just stand up straighter.

The Power of Doing Nothing

I’m sure you are aware of cycles, look to nature, and you will see a natural rhythm to things each and every day. But you may not be aware that those cycles and rhythms apply to all areas of your life. We aren’t meant to be going at full speed nonstop.

Trying to do everything on your own and helping others with their stuff too. Attempting to do too much for too long can have a very negative impact on your health, relationships, and your outlook on life.

It can take courage to stop and rest. Especially with how much importance the world puts on staying busy. We are taught to keep moving no matter what or risk being seen as lazy.

But what if stopping to do nothing is one of the best things you could do for yourself.

In times of high stress, it can seem counterintuitive to stop and relax. So many spinning anxious thoughts. Feeling you need to do something. Thinking you must keep moving or things will fall apart. It's often at those times we need to stop and do...

Lean Back

I love keeping busy, creating and moving forward in my life. But, sometimes all the busyness can cause me to feel overloaded! With all the responsibilities of each day you can feel like you’re being pulled in a hundred different directions at once.

There’s nothing wrong with being busy and getting things done. But you may find yourself rushing around on autopilot and not really choosing things that inspire you.

Now whenever I find myself rushing, I know I have to stop and slow down immediately! Even if I’m driving during peak traffic and everyone is rushing I slow down or stop.

Hurrying to answer emails, phone calls, just anytime I was doing things with that energy of I don’t have time.

This past week I kept hearing “slow down Althea, you’re making things difficult when they don’t need to be.”

After I heard that, I also became aware of how energy was moving in my body when I thought everything was a race.
