Generosity, Don’t Forget You ;-)

Being generous is a very beautiful thing.

But, do you remember to be generous with yourself? Really stop to think about that question.

You are probably kind to others, generous with your time and see the best in them.

But, can you say that you are that kind to yourself?

I pride myself on taking care of my mind and body.

I have gone to great lengths for years to practice what I preach and make my needs top priority so that I can maintain my mental and physical well being.

Now with that being said, I noticed a few weeks ago that I was feeling a bit off. Grouchy, resentful and drained.

Thankfully I quickly knew why I was feeling this way and began to clear my beliefs around disappointing others and over giving. 

Something that was a yes a few months ago suddenly felt heavy and wasn’t ok for me anymore.

At first I felt angry that this person kept asking more and more of me and was regularly testing boundaries.

As a kid I got the message that others' needs were more important than mine and this situation was bringing up some old programming to finally release.

I am extremely kind and generous with others and this situation was an invitation for me to be that for myself. And the message was clear that if I’m not being that for me then it negatively impacts multiple areas of my life, and I’m not ok with that!

It was kinda mind blowing to realize how doing what’s best for myself ripples out in positive ways to everyone I know.

The message I got in childhood was completely false.

The fear that others would be mad at me, or my worth and value comes from overgiving. 

Once I stopped making it wrong for me to possibly let people down it was super easy to speak my truth and shift the dynamic with this person.

Sure, they might be disappointed, but I am DONE feeling disappointed in myself when I’m not honest about how I truly feel.

I started assuming they would be understanding and respectful of my choices and that’s exactly what happened.

I feel so much more at peace, happier and energized since resolving this situation. 

Where do you need to set different boundaries?

Give yourself permission to let it be easy. Everything you desire is already within you. Be generous with your own receiving!
